We are down to our last few days of Summer Camp. It has been a great summer and I would like to thank all of the parents for allowing their children to participate in our summer camp and for the examples of kindness and love that they have shown to each other and to me. I have been particularly impressed with the way that your children have shown kindness and made friendships with students who have had different needs within our classroom. You have great children, and i look forward to seeing them all again soon!

One of the favorite activity of our summer campers is finding new classroom pets.... I hate them but the kids love them. This one is a California Prionus Beetle
These past couple of weeks have been packed with fun events for the kids. We have enjoyed trips to the Provo Rec Center, Lions Park, Firemans Park, Chic Fil A, 7-11, Fat Cats, the Provo Splash Pad and BYU campus to sell lemonade and popcorn. Over two days of selling lemonade we made $33. Some summer campers went to ask people nearby to buy lemonade, some worked at the table, and others stood holding the sign for passing cars to see. With all the money earned our class decided to have a pizza party this past Friday. There was a great lesson to be taught, that if you work hard it will pay off and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.
One of our in class activities last week was our ship building activity. In class, students had the opportunity to make their own model ships which included cutting, gluing, assembling, and painting. A few days later we went to the park and floated our boats down the river!
We also would like to thank the local DI for donating a box full of books to the Fox Class for a very low discounted price. Each student had the chance to pick 1-2 books that they got to keep!

Our class volcano. Made with flower, salt, and water. Painted over and added dinosaurs to make it appear more real. Afterwords, the volcano exploded by adding baking soda and vinegar. I guess we know how the dinosaurs became extinct :(

The highlight of last week was our class trip to the 8th annual Colonial Heritage Festival in Orem.
According to their website, http://www.freedomfestival.org/event/colonial-fest/, chairpersons Gregg Hardy and Katherine Hardy welcome all to, "Travel back in time through our
living museum known as the Village at Aubin’s Grove at SCERA Park, and
visit our indoor Colonial relics museum at the SCERA Center for the

great debates, public trials, and storytelling in the Old South Church.
From our grand Mayflower replica and maritime interactive exhibits to
the Colonial School, children will be attended to by teachers from the
Alpine School District. Children will also be able to play Colonial

Today the Fox Class went to Texas Roadhouse for a tour and a special lunch. Summer Campers had the chance to make their own home made bread rolls which were then baked and later enjoyed with a delicious cinnamon butter. After making rolls, campers were given a tour of the kitchen. Everyone was excited to take a brief walk into the huge walk-in freezer where we learned that the meat cutter spends anywhere from 8-12 hours a day cutting meat in. He wears a coat and a hat to keep warm! After the tour of the kitchen , everyone washed up, helped themselves to the soda machine and took a seat at one of the booths. Lunch was a scrumptious pulled pork sandwich with home made french fries. Everyone enjoyed their meal and a couple of the older kids asked the manager to turn on the TV so they could catch the end of the USA vs Germany soccer match of the World Cup. It was a great day for the Fox class.
A Reminder to Parents: Before we can post pictures of your child
or have them quoted on our classroom blog please remember to fill out
and turn in the permission slip that is at the front desk! We have lots of pictures that we would like to post but can't until we have your permission.
It has been a great first two weeks of summer camp for the Fox class. Apart from our weekly trip to Lions Park every Monday, our Students have enjoyed Bowling, Discovery Park, the Provo Splash Pad and Lowes Xtreme Air sports.
After visiting Lowes Xtreme Air sports, one of our students wrote, "Today was so fun! We went to Lowes Xtreme Air Sports and I saw one of my friends there that I probably wouldn't have seen for the rest of the summer. I haven't been there for so long and they changed it a lot! I want to go back again."

During Free Time students have also enjoyed playing educational games on our class IPad. After researching free IPad apps I picked about 15 different apps that will help our students develop a wide variety of skills including: problem solving, math (fractions, percentages and simple arithmetic), memorizing the USA states and capitals, understanding and recognizing synonyms, learning The Declaration of Independence, and many other cognitive skills. I have also enjoyed watching our students work together on the IPad to help each other solve problems and play educational games. Here is a website that provides you with a list of 55 free educational apps for the IPad. http://www.teachthought.com/apps-2/the-55-best-best-free-education-apps-for-ipad/
One of our students using the IPad to practice fractions. A great way to keep up on our math skills over the summer
Last but not least, we would like to wish a Happy Father's Day to all of the fathers, uncles, grandpas, and adult male figures in our lives. We hope you like the cards our students made for you!
